Former CVS employees in New York City have filed a lawsuit against the company claiming that they were told to keep an eye on and racially profile minority customers.
Reuters noted that the suit was filed in Manhattan on Wednesday and alleges that managers at the store required staff to watch minority customers and subjected some minority employees to racial slurs.
"(Supervisors) would give these directions even when there was no indication the black shopper was going to steal anything, and would never give such directions with regard to white shoppers," the lawsuit claims.
Spokesperson for CVS said that she is “shocked” by these allegations and the Rhode-Island company does not tolerate discrimination.
As previously reported, this is not first time Manhattan stores have been accused of racial profiling. Both Barney’s and Macy’s had to settle and pay out lawsuits last year after African American and Latino shoppers said they were specifically targeted.
The plaintiffs in this latest case are all black and Hispanic.
