Authorities have said that they believe a female prison employee may have provided the two escaped prison inmates from the Clinton Correctional Facility in New York with contraband.

The Associated Press noted that on Friday, District Attorney Andrew Wylie said that Joyce Mitchell allegedly provided David Sweat and Richard Matt with something that may have aided in their escape. While he did not say specifically what items she is thought to have supplied, he did say it was not power tools.

The contraband could be anything from cell phones to drugs to clothing not worn by prisoners.

As previously reported, Mitchell is an industrial training supervisor at the prison’s tailor shop and is thought to have had some type of relationship with one of the escapees.

Investigators had previously questioned Mitchell and said that she was allegedly going to drive a getaway car for Sweat and Matt when they broke out last Saturday. However, she checked herself into a hospital for chest pains that day.

Sweat, 34 and Matt, 48, were both convicted of murder. Sweat was serving a life sentence and Matt was serving a 25 to life sentence.

A manhunt for the fugitives is ongoing.
