Even though it was a PG, family friendly adventure, Tomorrowland has turned out to be a massive flop, and it looks like Disney is going to lose a tremendous amount of money on it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is likely to lose between $120 million and $140 million on the film when all is said and done, making it the studio's biggest flop since The Lone Ranger lost them $190 million in 2013.

Tomorrowland has grossed $170 million worldwide, which might not sound like a huge disaster. But the movie cost $190 million to make, plus an additional $150 million on marketing. But it isn't looking like the film will gross much more than $200 million worldwide by the end of its run, and if so, that's a massive loss Disney.

Though the movie opened at number one when it came out, the opening weekend was only $33 million, pretty weak for a film like this.

Disney recently cancelled production on Tron 3, and a lot of people have speculated that Tomorrowland was to blame, with the studio not wanting to take a big risk again after losing so much money. If the $140 million number is accurate, we certainly can't blame them.
