After Pittsburgh City Council President Bruce Kraus, the first openly gay elected official in the city, spoke out in protest of Iggy Azalea’s upcoming Pittsburgh Pride performance, the rapper has canceled it.

She made the announcement on Twitter Monday in a post titled “A message to Pittsburgh.” She wrote that although she does support the LGBTQ community, past words she has used have not reflected that and her appearance would only “distract” from its “true purpose.”

“I am a firm believer in equality. Unfortunately in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want is for something so carelessly said to be interpreted as reflective of my character,” the tweet reads.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, some groups opted to drop out of the events because of Azalea being chosen as the headliner.

Azalea’s cancellation of her Pittsburgh Pride appearance comes just days after she canceled her entire Great Escape tour.
