A couple of weeks after announcing plans to tour and teasing new music, Janet Jackson confirmed this morning that she will release her first album since 2008.

The new record will be the first release from her Rhythm Nation label and will be distributed by BMG. It is still untitled, but should be released this fall.

Jackson signed an artist services deal with BMG, so she will keep all rights to her recordings and full control of costs and revenues.

“Janet is not just a supreme artist, she is a unique cultural force whose work resonates around the world,” BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said in a statement. “It is an honor that she has chosen BMG to release her long-awaited new album. We look forward to collaborating with her across every platform.”

“Thank you to the talented team at BMG, my new artistic home. The opportunity to be creative in music and every form of entertainment has great potential here,” Jackson added.

Jackson announced on May 16 that she will be doing a world tour this year, although she didn’t release any dates.

Jackson is still best known for her iconic 1986 album Control and her 1993 album janet with the hit “That’s The Way Love Goes.” She hasn’t released a studio album since 2008’s Discipline, which wasn’t much of a commercial success. Hopefully for her, the new album will be a strong comeback to revive her career.
