Jurassic World is stomping into theaters this weekend with a big international rollout. The dinosaurs started rumbling early in some markets, helping the film get off to a great start.
Universal says that the film has already earned $24.5 million in one day from just six territories, including China and France. According to Variety, it made $17.2 million in China alone, earning the sixth-best opening for a foreign film there.
The other markets that got to see the film early are Belgium, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, Trinidad and French Switzerland. It earned the second-best Universal opening in France, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Jurassic World is the first film in the Jurassic Park series since 2001’s Jurassic Park III and stars Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt. The film will opens in 58 foreign territories today and also opens in the U.S. this weekend.
Anticipation for the film is incredibly high, as Fandango reported that it has made up 90 percent of this weekend’s ticket sales at the site. According to The Hollywood Reporter, analysts are expecting the film to make around $125 million in North America. It will be shown at 4,273 locations, making it the widest Universal release in the studio’s history.
