While the Entourage crew got off to a good start, the film based on the HBO series slowed down significantly as the week wore on, based on early studio estimates. Melissa McCarthy's Spy wound up winning the weekend, while San Andreas earned a strong second weekend.

20th Century Fox’s early estimates peg the opening for Spy at $30 million. The film earned great reviews and was directed by McCarthy’s The Heat director, Paul Feig. That’s a better opening than her last big studio outing, Warner Bros.’ Tammy, which started with $21.5 million.

San Andreas opened with over $53 million last weekend and held on very well this weekend, falling a little under 50 percent. It added $26.4 million, bringing its total to $99.1 million. Clearly, people love seeing Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson save people.

Returning to this weekend's new movies, Insidious: Chapter 3 grossed $23 million. That’s a little more than half of Chapter 2’s $40.2 million in 2013. It’s another effort from Blumhouse, distributed by Universal’s Focus Features.

Entourage, released by Warner Bros., made $7.4 million before the weekend, since it had been in theaters since Tuesday night. However, it only added $10.4 million over the weekend.

Mad Max: Fury Road, also from Warner Bros., continues to hold on incredibly well, grossing $7.9 million. The film is now up to an astonishing $130.8 million, which is fantastic for an R-rated action movie.

Universal’s Pitch Perfect 2 fell out of the Top 5, making $7.7 million.

Disney’s Tomorrowland continues to fall, making just $7 million in its third weekend. The George Clooney-starring film is up to just $76.2 million.
