Michael Keaton, who played an actual comic book character before starring in a satire about a superhero actor, is set to return to the comic book world. He’s signed on to star in Imagine Agents, a Boom! comics series that Fox picked up.
Keaton is set to star in the film and will co-produce with Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Boom!’s Ross Richie, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The executive producers include Eli Selden and Doug Wald of Anonymous and Boom!’s Stephen Christy. Co-producers are Adam Yoelin and Ashley Zalta.
The series, which began in October 2013, was written by Brian Joines and drawn by Bachan. It’s about a group of imaginary friends who are actually real members of a group called IMAGINE. They have to stop other figments of imagination that might get out of control. The main characters are a 20-year veteran and a young archivist he has to mentor (which does sound a bit like Men In Black, to be honest).
Keaton first played Batman, then starred in Birdman last year, which finally earned him his first Oscar nomination. He’ll try again next year with The Founder, a film about how the McDonald’s empire was built. That hits theaters in November 2016.
However, he’s not completely turning his back on less-serious movies. He’s also starring in Kong: Skull Island.
