Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who is running for the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination, said earlier this year that he wishes he thought of pretending to be transgender in high school just so he could get into the girl’s locker room.

The comments were made at the 2015 National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, reports BuzzFeed. Video of his speech finally surfaced on YouTube this weekend when they were posted by World Net Daily. They have since gone viral on Twitter in the wake of Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover.

“For those who do not think that we are under threat, simply recognize that the fact that we are now in city after city watching ordinances say that your 7-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom cannot be offended and you can’t be offended if she’s greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man,” Huckabee began.

He then tried to joke that he wished he “could have felt like a woman” during gym class so he could take showers in the girls locker room.

“I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today.’ You’re laughing because it sounds so ridiculous, doesn’t it?” Huckabee said.

Huckabee went on to say that he and his audience “are the ones who are ridiculed and scorned because we point out the obvious.”

“That there is something inherently wrong about forcing little children to be a part of this social experiment,” Huckabee said. “I’m not against anybody. I’d just like for somebody to bring their brain to work some day and not leave it on the bed stand when they show up to govern.”

Huckabee announced plans to run for president early last month. He previously ran for the oval office in 2008.
