Nick Jonas has announced he will step in for Iggy Azalea to headline this weekend’s Pittsburgh Pride event, after she dropped out earlier this week.
As we previously reported, Azalea canceled her appearance amid backlash for prior racist and homophobic comments. She wrote in a social media post her appearance would only “distract” from its “true purpose.”
On Wednesday, the Delta Foundation announced Jonas would step in for the Australian rapper.
Delta Foundation President Gary Van Horn said in a release that Jonas called the foundation to offer to headline, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
“He has been a supporter of the LGBT community and he wanted to make sure that the community and Pittsburgh had a Pride event that they could be proud of,” Van Horn said.
Jonas also said, “When I heard about the difficult position Pittsburgh Pride was in just days before their event, I knew I had to find a way to help.”
