Police in New York City are searching for a man who allegedly threw a bottle at and pushed a transgender woman onto the subway tracks.
NBC News noted that authorities said the 28-year-old woman was waiting for her train Monday morning when the suspect asked her what she was looking at.
He was then seen on surveillance video running to a trash can and retrieving what appears to be a bottle. The man then allegedly tossed the object at the woman, pushed her onto the train tracks and fled the scene.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The NYPD are now seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect and offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to his arrest.
The Associated Press noted that the case is being investigated as a hate crime.
The incident comes the same week in which a dialogue about the transgender community has really opened up and garnered headlines after Bruce Jenner debuted as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair.
