Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur has not had an easy time coming to the big screen, like Brave, Cars 2 and Ratatouille before it. Not only has the film changed directors during production, but we now know that the voice cast was nearly completely overhauled.
Disney announced the final voice cast today, which is notably different than the one unveiled at D23 in August 2013.
So, here’s the final cast:
Raymond Ochoa (The Night Shift) - Arlo, the good dinosaur of the title
Jeffrey Wright (The Hunger Games) - Arlo’s father, Poppa
Frances McDormand - Arlo’s mother, Momma
Marcus Scribner (black-ish) - Buck, Arlo’s brother
Steve Zahn (Out Of Sight) - Thunderclap, a pterodactyl
AJ Buckley (Justified) - Nash, a T-Rex
Anna Paquin (True Blood) - Ramsey, a T-Rex
Sam Elliott (nearly everything ever) - Butch, a T-Red
Jack Bright (Monsters University) - Spot, Arlo’s human friend
Who’s missing? Lucas Neff (Raising Hope) was originally set to voice Arlo, while Bill Hader (who did make the final cast of Inside Out) was supposed to voice a brother named Forrest. Neil Patrick Harris and Judy Greer were supposed to voice Arlo’s family members, but those characters were cut.
The Good Dinosaur was originally supposed to be Pixar’s summer 2014 movie, but just days after D23, Up co-director Bob Peterson left the project. He was replaced by first-time feature director Peter Sohn and the film was ultimately pushed to Nov. 25, 2015. That means that 2015 will be the first time two Pixar movies will be released in the same calendar year. (Inside Out opens next week.)
The first teaser for The Good Dinosaur was released earlier this month.
