Rapper MC Supreme, who is best known for the 1990 single “Black In America,” was the victim in a car crash Saturday in Malibu.
A GMC pick-up truck was found turned over on Pacific Coast Highway around 6:20 a.m., a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told CBS LA. The early investigation has shown that the truck was going eastbound. The vehicle struck a parked Honda Civic and another parked vehicle, a GMC Sierra pick-up.
The driver of the Civic was identified as Dwayne Coleman, 47. As the Associated Press notes, Coleman performed under the name MC Supreme in the early ‘90s. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, a woman, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. The male driver and female passenger in the Sierra were not injured.
The driver of the overturned GMC truck was Phillip Thomas Torres II, 33. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
After the crash, the section of PCH was closed for six hours, not opening again until 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Actor Rob Lowe later tweeted about the crash, blaming authorities and noting that it was the fourth car crash in the same section of PCH in a month.
