Last week, Rose McGowan tweeted a picture of notes she got before an audition for an Adam Sandler movie just to highlight the sexist requests actresses have to put up with. Now, she says that her complaining has left her without an agent.
Back on June 17, McGowan tweeted a picture of a casting note she received for a movie with a male star whose name “rhymes with Madam Panhandler.”
It requests actress to “make sure to read the attached script before coming in so you understand the context of the scenes.” As for wardrobe, it asks actresses to wear “black (or dark) form fitting tank that shows off cleavage (push up bras encouraged). And form fitting leggings or jeans. Nothing white.”
McGowan also complained in an interview with the New York Post.
She later tweeted, “I was insulted by the instructions to 'read the script for context.' Hahaha.” But then last night, she revealed that her “wussy acting agent” fired her “because I spoke up about the bulls**t in Hollywood.”
It’s not clear what Sandler movie McGowan was auditioning for, but the actor is putting together his second Netflix movie, which recently cast Paula Patton as the female lead.
McGowan is best known for her role on CharmeD and also appeared on ABC’s Once Upon A Time. She currently stars in the Crackle series Chosen. The actress is also joining the growing list of stars to speak up about sexism in Hollywood.
