The Sundance movie The Stanford Prison Experiment chilling trailer is out and yes, it is a true story.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the film will be directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez and will depict the unsettling events that happened within this study.
His goal is to take the viewer directly into what can be viewed as either one of the most important studies done in human psychology or as one of the most inhumane and psychologically destructive experiments of the 1970’s.
The purpose of the experiment was to examine the interactions between college students who are willingly placed in a fake prison. The students answer a questionnaire about their family background, social behavior, and overall health and are split into guards and prisoners.
As the guards begin to increase in brutality towards the prisoners, the seemingly safe and fun experiment, quickly escalates into a dangerous situation.
Ezra Miller, Tye Sheridan and Michael Angarano are just a few actors who play the unknowing volunteers. Billy Crudup will play the psychologist Dr. Zimbardo who leads the controversial experiment.
The film will come to theaters on July 17.
