The third Star Trek movie in J.J. Abrams’ rebooted universe now officially has a title. Director Justin Lin has revealed that the film will be called Star Trek Beyond.
Lin, who directed three Fast & Furious movies and just helmed the first two episodes of True Detective Season Two, tweeted the confirmation late Monday. “Let the next Starfleet voyage begin!” Lin wrote, adding the hashtags #StarTrekBeyond and #LLAP (“Live Long And Prosper”). He also included an image of the Starfleet patch on a uniform.
Star Trek Beyond is definitely not a surprising title. The title first surfaced in April, when it was rumored that Paramount already registered the name with the MPAA. Simon Pegg also let the title slip in a blog post in May.
The new film is scheduled for release on July 8, 2016, marking the 50th anniversary of the first Trek TV series. It is the 13th overall film in the franchise and follows 2012’s Star Trek Into Darkness. The franchise was rebooted by Abrams in 2009 with the simply-titled Star Trek.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will return to play Kirk and Spock, respectively. (The two have also signed on for a fourth film.) Zoe Saldana, Pegg, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin are all returning. Idris Elba will reportedly play the villain.
