While we know what the first Star Wars Anthology film will be about, there’s still rumors surrounding the plot of Disney’s second film outside the main Skywalker saga. A new rumor suggests that it won’t center on just Boba Fett, but also with Han Solo added.
Last month, TheWrap confirmed that the new film will be a Boba Fett “origin” film, but sources for SchmoesKnow say that it will be more like a movie centered on the entire Star Wars underworld. That world has provided plenty of fodder for great novels and comics, but all that is now considered non-canon since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012.
The SchmoesKnow source states that, like Rogue One, this film will also be set during the 19-year gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It will be influenced by Westerns and Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Bossk and other members of the Star Wars underworld are expected to make appearances.
This project was supposed to be directed by Fantastic Four’s Josh Trank and Disney has yet to hire a new filmmaker. However, the new rumor suggests that Jon Favreau - who is currently working on Disney’s live-action Jungle Book - and Matthew Vaughn, who just helmed Kingsman: The Secret Service, are being considered.
But that’s not all. For those who really like to plan ahead, SchmoesKnow’s source claims that the 2020 Anthology film could be centered on Mace Windu or Yoda and take a more spiritual tone.
Rogue One hits theaters on Dec. 16, 2018, while the second Anthology movie is scheduled for 2018. Simon Kinberg, who produced Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class and works on Star Wars Rebels, is producing the film.
