Open Road released the first teaser for Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden biopic, which is merely titled Snowden. The teaser will be a disappointment to anyone hoping to see what Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks like as the NSA whistleblower, who now lives in Russia.
The teaser runs just under 90 seconds and lists Snowden’s credentials, before he told the world about the National Security Agency’s secret surveillance programs. It features no images or scenes from the film, instead showing an upside down U.S. flag.
This is the first time we’ve heard about the film in a while. In March, Gordon-Levitt posted a few pictures of himself as Snowden on Facebook.
In addition to Gordon-Levitt, the star-studded cast includes Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson and Nicolas Cage. Shailene Woodley is set to play Snowden’s girlfriend.
Snowden hits theaters on Christmas Day. Snowden has already made an impact on the film world, since Laura Poitras’ documentary on him, CitizenFour, won the 2014 Best Documentary Feature Oscar.
