Doesn’t Vin Diesel have enough franchises already? Apparently not, because the action star has hinted that Lionsgate might want to make a sequel to his upcoming The Last Witch Hunter.
For those who need a reminder of what this movie is, it’s the one that includes Diesel swinging around a flaming sword. A trailer for the film was released in April, showing off Diesel’s incredible weaponry in the film. He stars as the titular witch hunter, who is the only person left who can stop witches, or so Michael Caine says. Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) and Elijah Wood co-star.
Although the film doesn’t open until Oct. 23 - just in time for Halloween - Diesel teased on Facebook that Lionsgate is “so excited” by the film that “they are already commencing on the next one.” He added, “The first one doesn't hit theaters until October 23rd, yet they want me to commit and already block out time to film it.”
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer did tell investors that a sequel to the film might happen if it is successful. Considering this is the same studio that has two Now You See Me movies in the works, that sounds entirely plausible.
Diesel joined the Marvel universe as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy and he’s hinted at another Marvel role. He’s also part of Universal’s Fast & Furious series, which is getting an eighth film in 2017.
