Despite conflicting reports about the project’s future, the out-of-left-field Will Ferrell/Kristen Wiig Lifetime movie A Deadly Adoption has already been made and will air this month.
News of the bizarre project first leaked in April. Apparently Ferrell and Wiig weren’t happy that the news leaked and issued a statement claiming that they will not let the film air after all.
But that was never really the case. After all, Lifetime wasn’t likely to scrap an already-produced comedy starring two of the most popular recent Saturday Night Live alums. A billboard showed up on Hollywood Boulevard this week announcing that A Deadly Adoption will air on June 20 with the tagline “The birth of a plan gone wrong.”
Although the poster says that June 20 is a Sunday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that it will air on Saturday, June 20. That’s a bit different for Lifetime, since most of their movies premiere on Sunday nights.
The film is purposefully made to make fun of the typical Lifetime made-for-TV movie. Jessica Lowndes (90210) stars as a pregnant woman who lives with a well-to-do couple (Wiig and Ferrell), who hope to adopt her baby. Things don’t go as planned, hence the “deadly” part of the title.
Rachel Lee Goldenberg (Love at the Christmas Table) directed the film, which was written by Andrew Steele (The Spoils of Babylon).
Wiig was recently seen in the Ferrell-produced indie Welcome To Me, while Ferrell was spotted in Get Hard with Kevin Hart.
