Many empowering songs and anthems have been written over time. From “Lose Yourself” to “Eye of The Tiger” these songs have set a standard for inspiration and being theme songs for generations. Indie rock group, X Ambassadors, from Ithaca, New York, are showing why their music should be added to the ever growing list of anthems with “Renegades.”

X Ambassadors became a band back in 2009 and started to gain traction with fans while opening up for Imagine Dragons, Jimmy Eat World and The Mowglis. Now in 2014, the group is ready to make their move towards their own headlining tour with new music and the release of their debut album at the end of June. Their first mainstream single “Renegades” sets the tone. The song captures the energy and passion that the band has channeled within their music. The main melody of this song feels unique and natural. The vocals not only compliment that modern direction but adds a layer of complexity to the sound.

“Renegades” as a song makes a statement but the music video that accompanies the song elevates that statement. The storytelling that comes to life through this music video is not only empowering but matches the heart behind the song. The visuals throughout show individuals with personal disabilities doing a wide variety of tasks that at first glance seem extremely difficult.

The opening of the video shows a blind woman doing a full cross fit workout. She explains that the only modification that is done to the workout is how the moves are explained to her. The video explores what life is like with these disabilities and how these individuals are enjoying life in a different way, through a different lens.

As we hear the lyrics, "All hail the underdogs, All hail the new kids, All hail the outlaws,” we see these individuals rising up and breaking down barriers. They are reaching their own goals even despite overwhelming challenges.

X Ambassadors has taken the time to create a visual that not only compliments their single but elevates it.

The group will be releasing their debut album on June 30th and can also be seen at the upcoming Bonnaroo festival. This is a band to watch in 2015.
