To give people something to think about during Comic-Con this weekend, there’s a rumor that Colin Trevorrow will go from dinosaurs to Jedi. The Jurassic World director is rumored to be the pick to direct Star Wars: Episode IX.
Heroic Hollywood claims that Lucasfilm will bring Trevorrow out to name him the director of the next film, which likely won’t be out until 2019, during the Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel. It will certainly satisfy fans still disappointed by the news that no new trailer for The Force Awakens will be shown.
Writer Lawrence Kasdan, J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy are the only confirmed panelists for SDCC. Still, actors from the film are expected to show up.
Last summer, Looper director Rian Johnson was hired to direct Star Wars: Episode VIII and write Episode IX. We will probably hear more details about his involvement today as well.
Snagging Trevorrow for Star Wars is a big coup for Disney and Lucasfilm. The Safety Not Guaranteed filmmaker just revived the Jurassic Park franchise with Universal’s Jurassic World. That film has now grossed $1.4 billion worldwide and is still in theaters. Hopefully he leans more on story than effects in his Star Wars movie.
