A very scary moment occurred during a fireworks display in Avon, Colorado, and left nine people injured.
NBC News noted that authorities said during the town’s annual Salute to the USA show, firework shells malfunctioned and shot into the crowd.
The incident was shot on video and posted online. It starts off with sounds of excitement and awe by those in the crowd, but then terrified shrieks of panic can be heard.
Courtney Von Der Heyde described the scene to 7 News.
"It was insane,” she said. “I just wanted to grab my kid and get out of there. One of the embers or fireworks went directly to the stroller where the kids were.”
Von Der Heyde and her son were not injured, but nine other spectators did suffer minor burns.
The accident is another example of just how dangerous fireworks can be. On average, more than 1,000 people seek treatment for firework-related injuries every year.
