New Yorkers say that they have seen just about everything walking around the Big Apple. Well now, they can add an alligator to that list.

The International Business Times noted that the reptile was spotted on Thursday strolling on the sidewalk along a river in Inwood. The NYPD contacted Animal Care and Control and the gator was soon captured.

Residents in the area may have been taken aback by the visitor but they were never really in danger as the alligator was only 3-feet long.

Authorities are not exactly sure where the creature came from. They think it was likely someone’s pet that got too big.

“When they are 6-inch little babies, they are the cutest little things,” animal rescuer Sean Casey told the New York Daily News. “People don’t think about what they are doing.”

Now that the gator is off the streets, Animal Care and Control is trying to find a new home for it at a rehabilitation center.
