An American tourist, thought to have went missing after kayaking five years ago in Australia, was found alive this past weekend.
The AFP reported that authorities said Kenneth Rodman, who was last seen in 2010, was arrested by police responding to a burglary in the town of Cairns after he led them on a chase.
"On Saturday night, officers investigating a matter stumbled across the now 60-year-old man where he allegedly confessed to police that he had been listed as a missing person."
Law enforcement officials believed that Rodman staged his own disappearance even sinking his kayak, which was recovered month after he disappeared.
The Courier Mail noted that over the years there had been multiple reported sightings of Rodman in Ingham, Airlie Beach, Sydney and Darwin.
He is expected to be extradited back to the United States.
Investigators have not confirmed the reasoning behind Rodman allegedly faking his own disappearance, but did say that at the time his visa was about to expire.
