Amy Schumer’s new photoshoot with C-3PO and R2-D2 for GQ is certainly funny, especially for Star Wars fans with a sense of humor. But people at Lucasfilm might not be totally happy, considering that Star Wars is supposed to be a family-friendly franchise.
Schumer is on the cover of GQ’s comedy issue. On the cover, she’s seen wearing Princess Leia’s famous slave bikini from Return of the Jedi with Threepio’s finger in her mouth. Other photos show her in a cab with Yoda, Threepio and Chewbacca; doing leg-kicks with Stormtroopers and standing on a bar in another Leia costume.
Perhaps the strangest (or funniest) photo shows her topless in a bed in between R2 and Threepio. Both droids are shown smoking.
Lucasfilm sources told Entertainment Weekly that the studio had nothing to do with the photos. Of course, since it was just parody, they can’t sue, but they certainly weren’t happy.
“It’s not surprising that GQ would want to capitalize on the cultural cachet of Star Wars, but Lucasfilm and Disney did not authorize, participate in or condone the inappropriate use of our characters in this manner,” the Disney-owned company said.
The cover comes as Schumer’s Trainwreck hits theaters. Her Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer, also nabbed several Emmy nominations Thursday.
