A 10-month-old baby girl was rescued after she floated out to sea off the western coast of Turkey.
The Telegraph reported that little Melda Ilgin was in sitting in an inflatable child seat when the winds picked up and carried her a half mile out into the Aegean Sea.
The incident occurred off the coast of Ayvacik.
According to the state-run Anadolu news agency, the infant’s parents did not even realize that she had floated away until they were alerted by other worried beachgoers.
They and several bystanders then watched as Ilgin drifted out further. Some horrified onlookers jumped into the water and tried desperately but could not reach her.
Finally, the Turkish coast guard was called in and the remarkable rescue, which was captured on video and posted online, shows a man swimming toward the small yellow float.
The child did appear to be injured and once ashore was wrapped in a towel, given water and reunited with her parents.
