The usual news cycle for celebrity divorces starts with the rumors, then the official announcement and then more rumors about how it fell apart. Country stars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are now in the third phase as speculation runs wild about the break-up.
Shelton and Lambert issued a statement on Monday about their divorce after four years of marriage. “This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues,” the couple said.
So what led to the divorce? For several years, there were tabloid rumors that Shelton was cheating on Lambert. However, the rumors coming after the divorce suggest that it was the other way around.
Multiple sources told TMZ that Shelton had suspected Lambert of cheating on him for months. While Lambert was seen out with another country singer, Chris Young, after Young opened for her, TMZ claims that Shelton heard about another man that Lambert was having an affair with.
Another source for The New York Post’s Page Six claimed that Shelton wasn’t happy that Lambert didn’t want to have children. Another issue was her long tours, which kept them apart.
“He is eager to have children, but she really enjoys not being tied down. I think they both were off on what the time frame would be,” the source told the Post.
Defamer suggested that Shelton’s PR team might be trying to make the public think that Lambert was to blame for the split. After all, another unnamed source told People that Shelton “hasn’t cheated ever.”
“Blake is just that incredibly loyal and dedicated husband,” People’s source said. “I can guarantee you he has been faithful to that woman.”
TMZ did report that the divorce is already official and that Shelton filed for divorce two weeks ago.
