The Toronto Blue Jays acquired shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in a trade with the Colorado Rockies early Tuesday morning.

Tulowitzki was traded so that the Rockies could get Jose Reyes. In addition to Reyes the Rockies get rookie reliever Miguel Castro and two minor league pitcher, Jeff Hoffman and Jesus Tinoco, according to the Associated Press. In addition to Tulowitzki the Blue Jays also got reliever LaTroy Hawkins. Hawkins is 2-1 with a 3.63 ERA and is headed to his 11th major league team.

Tulowitzki is under contract through 2020 while Reyes is under contract through 2017. Tulowitzki will have $106 million left on his contract after this season while Reyes is owed $50 million for the 2016-17 seasons, USA Today notes. Reyes has a $22 million club option for 2018 with a $4 million buyout.

The Rockies drafted Tulowitzki in 2005. He has spent his entire career with the team. In 2007 he helped the Rockies reach the World Series. Tulowitzki is hitting .300 with 12 homeruns and 53 RBIs this season, according to ESPN. He is a .299 career hitter.

Reyes had been with the Blue Jays for two and a half years. He is a four-time All-Star. This season Reyes is hitting .285 with four homeruns, 34 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases.

The Rockies are 42-55 and in last place in the NL West .The Blue Jays, who haven’t made the playoffs since 1993, the longest active drought in baseball, are seven games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.
