The Iron Giant flies onto the big screen once again. Before Brad Bird made a name for himself with The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol and Tomorrowland, he made another great classic, one that sadly never really got the audience it should have during its initial theatrical run — until, hopefully, now.
To celebrate the remastered and "enhanced" 1999 Warner Bros. film, Fathom Events brings the movie back into theaters on September 30th at 7 p.m. in various theaters throughout the country. If you can't make it at this date-and-time, however, there's an encore scheduled on October 4 at 12 p.m. In addition to seeing the movie and titular character in the format it was meant to seen in, audience members also get to see two all-new scenes incorporated into Bird's feature film debut.
The locations where these encore screenings will take place, as well as when tickets can be purchased, becomes available on the Fathom website beginning in August. These screenings are here to promote the DVD and Blu-Ray release of The Iron Giant: Signature Edition, which the press release announces comes onto shelves sometime this fall.
While The Incredibles remains his best to date, The Iron Giant is a close second on Bird's filmography. The animated movie is entirely heartwarming, clever and smart in all the right ways and instantly lovable just as the best family movies become instantly and overtime. I'm hoping I don't have any plans on either of these dates, because I definitely want to check out this movie on the big screen again, and will continue to support Bird's vision in any way I can.
