U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith succumbed to injuries suffered Thursday during a deadly shooting at military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The 26-year-old is the fifth victim in the shooting.

Four Marines were killed during the shooting at an Army Recruiting Center. The gunman fired at the office from a vehicle and later led police on a chase to a Naval and Marine Reserve center. Law enforcement said that the shooter, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, was killed by police.

Smith was among those injured at the shooting. The U.S. Navy announced that he succumbed to his injuries this morning. He reportedly lived in Paulding County, Ohio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich was quick to send his condolences on Twitter, notes NBC News.

The four Marines killed in the shooting were Staff Sgt. David Wyatt of Burke, North Carolina; Sgt. Carson Holmquist of Polk, Wisconsin; Lance Cpl. Squire K. Wells of Cobb, Georgia; and Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan of Hampden, Massachusetts.

Authorities are now investigating Abdulazeez’s background. Officials told The Associated Press that he was not known to federal authorities before Thursday and counterterrorism investigators are taking a look at what he has done online recently.

“It would be premature to speculate on exactly why the shooter did what he did," FBI agent Ed Reinhold told the AP. "However, we are conducting a thorough investigation to determine whether this person acted alone or was inspired or directed."
