After Christina Hendricks left Cameron Crowe and Showtime’s Roadies, you knew it wouldn’t be long before the Mad Men star would get another role. She had to wait less than a week before being cast in SundanceTV’s Hap and Leonard.
Hendricks joins James Purefoy, Michael Kenneth Williams, Bill Sage and Jimmi Simpson in the series. SundanceTV picked up the show for six episodes. It was created by Cold in July director Jim Mickle and writer Nick Damici and is based on the novels by Joe Lansdale.
Purefoy plays Hap, while Williams stars as Leonard. Hap is a white ex-convict who refused to serve in Vietnam. He meets Leonard, an openly gay, black Vietnam veteran, while working on an East Texas plantation. The two strike up a unique friendship and try to avoid running into the law. Hendricks will co-star as Hap’s ex-wife Trudy, who suddenly comes into his life after two years away.
Hendricks earned multiple Emmy nominations for playing Joan Harris and was recently seen in Ryan Gosling’s Lost River and John Slattery’s God’s Pocket. She filmed the pilot for Roadies, but her role was recast last week and she left that project. So Hap and Leonard will become her return to a starring role after Mad Men. However, she can be seen in Comedy Central’s new series Another Period, which airs on Tuesdays.
