A lot of the biggest and craziest moments from Jurassic World were actually shown in the trailers, and director Colin Trevorrow says he wishes the studio hadn't given away so much.
In an interview with IGN, Colin Trevorrow said that the studio gave away far more in the trailers than he ever would have wanted, joking that he begged the studio to at least not give away the end credits.
But went on to say that the studio's way of marketing the movie has been proven to bring audiences in, and it clearly worked given the film's huge numbers. Trevorrow said he hopes people who see the movie will tell their friends that the film itself is actually not full of dumb explosions and mindless action like the trailers might suggest.
Trevorrow also talked about the idea of some things in the trailer seeming silly at first but working much better in the movie. For example, fans were pretty unsure how Chris Pratt riding on his motorcycle surrounded by raptors would work, but in the film itself that moment is built up to an earned more than it is out of context. He said that there's always been a conflict between filmmakers wanting to ease audiences into big moments and the marketing executives wanting to sell the film on those moments.
This sort of conflict has been playing out a lot recently, with the director of Terminator: Genisys also complaining that the trailers for that film gave away too much, as we previously reported. In that case, the trailer actually revealed the film's big twist, a reveal that was later included in the posters as well.
