Public outrage has grown towards the dentist who brutally murdered Cecil the lion and now he has closed his practice in Minnesota.

The Associated Press noted that Walter Palmer has advised his patients that he closed his dental practice amid backlash and death threats.

As we reported, Palmer was identified as the person who killed the beloved 13-year-old male lion named Cecil in Zimbabwe earlier this month. Since his identity was revealed, protesters have been lined up outside his office and he has been in hiding.

Authorities with the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force have said that Palmer allegedly lured the lion out of a national park and shot the animal with a crossbow. He is accused of then paying another man to help him track the big cat for 40 hours before fatally shooting Cecil with a firearm.

“Both the professional hunter and the land owner had no permit or quota to justify the offtake of the lion and therefore are liable for the illegal hunt,” the Zimbabwe National Parks said in a statement.

We previously noted that the dentist is an avid hunter and member of the Safari Club International. He claimed that he believed it was a legal hunt.
