Dr. Dre has recorded an album inspired by Straight Outta Compton. Ice Cube stated that the record will drop Aug. 1.
According to the film’s director F. Gary Gray, the album contains music from Dre featuring Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and other artists.
In an interview with Philadelphia's radio station Power 99 on Wednesday, Ice Cube confirmed that Dre's album will come out next week. "Actually, Dre is dropping an inspired album, inspired by Compton. He's dropping something on Aug. 1," Ice Cube told the radio host. “It’s mega. It’s Dr. Dre. It’s what everybody has been waiting for. It’s definitely a dope record, and he’s dropping it all on the same day. It’s crazy.”
Dre already hinted at the album back in March. He told Rolling Stones that he was "working on something" but he didn't "want to put it out there just yet and say I'm definitely going to put it out."
Dre added, “But I’m really feeling what I’m working on right now. This would be a record that’s inspired by the movie.”
Ice Cube was also asked about rumors of N.W.A. reuniting with Eminem on tour. “We’ve definitely been talking about it. It’s just really about promotors coming to the table and we put together something that works for everybody. It’s definitely, definitely possible," he replied.
