We all know that drinking soft drinks like Coca-Cola is not good for your health, but most of us probably think that it’s more dangerous if you drink it all the time. But a new infographic is making the rounds, highlighting how dangerous a can of regular Coke can be in just an hour after drinking it.
Niraj Naik, The Renegade Pharmacist, put together an infographic that shows what Coke does to your body, just 10 minutes after drinking it. The text comes from a list posted at Blisstree.com in June 2010.
In the first 10 minutes, your body is dealing with 10 teaspoons of sugar, which is equal to 100 percent of your recommended daily amount of sugar. You would actually vomit right away, but there’s phosphoric acid that helps you keep the drink down. It will take 40 minutes for you to fully absorb the caffeine. After 60 minutes, you could experience a sugar crash and become irritable or slow.
The chart is going around just after new research came out from University of Cambridge doctors on the risks of drinking Coke. According to Global News, the researchers found that weight is not a factor when determining your risk of developing type 2 diabetes if you regularly drink sugary drinks.
“Even if people have the same body weight or body size, higher consumption of sugar sweetened beverages by one serving per day was associated with 13 per cent higher risk of type 2 diabetes,” lead researcher, Dr. Fumiaki Imamura, explained in a statement.
