Television has been getting better and better in recent years, and some have felt that it's actually beginning to surpass film. Legendary actor Dustin Hoffman now says he agrees with that sentiment.

In an interview with The Guardian, Dustin Hoffman said that film is currently the worst it's been in the 50 years he's been acting on screen.

Among other reasons, Hoffman pointed to digital technology pressuring directors to make movies in just a few weeks, whereas they use to have more time to make sure everything was perfect. He noted that on The Graduate, the script took three years and they filmed it over the course of 100 days, but films rarely take that amount of time anymore.

“It’s hard to believe you can do good work for the little amount of money these days,” he said.

In contrast, Hoffman said that while film is the worst it's ever been, television is the best it's ever been, saying that TV is now his medium of choice.

He didn't elaborate too much on that, but a lot of people have said that in the golden age of television, artistic shows like Mad Men and Hannibal are able to be produced, whereas movies are increasingly about major blockbusters and tentpole releases. But the line between film and TV is becoming more and more blurry, with a Netflix show like House of Cards essentially just resembling a 10 hour movie every season. And Netflix is only becoming more popular as time goes on, as we previously reported.
