Since family members of prison escapee Richard Matt have not claimed his body by the deadline he may be buried by the New York county near the facility he broke out of.

Reuters noted that Megan Avery, a spokeswoman for Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, said that Matt, 49, has two children. However, his daughter declined to claim her father’s body and his son, Nicholas Harris, did not responded by the deadline to claim it.

Since the time allotted has passed, Avery said that Matt will have an unclaimed burial done by Franklin County Coroner Bryan Langdon.

"They’re very simple burials," Langdon said. "They’re proper. They’re done with dignity.”

As previously reported, Matt and David Sweat escaped Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6. A manhunt for the escapees ended over the weekend when Matt was fatally shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent on Friday and Sweat was captured on Sunday.

Both men were convicted of murder. Matt was serving a sentence of 25 years to life and Sweat was serving a sentence of life in prison.
