A week after dropping a weird 1980s style advertisement for Camp Firewood, Netflix has released a real trailer for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day At Camp. The eight-episode prequel series to the 2001 cult comedy features an insane number of stars and they all get name-checked in the teaser.
As made clear by the title, First Day At Camp shows us what the summer of 1981 was like at the beginning, whereas the film showed the final day of camp. Of course, the fact that this new series was made 14 years after the film means that everyone looks older than they did on the last day. That’s probably going to be played for some laughs throughout.
In addition to nearly everyone from the original cast, Kristen Wiig, Jason Schwartzman, Jon Hamm, John Slattery and Lake Bell also joined the team. The new series will debut on July 31 and was created by the film’s writers, Michael Showalter and David Wain.
And it does look like Showalter gets two roles again.
