Flights going in and out of Indonesia have been grounded as several airports in the country closed following the eruption of a volcano.

The Associated Press noted that officials said the eruption of the Mount Raung volcano forced them to close the Denpasar International Airport, Selaparang Airport, Blimbingsari Airport and Notohadinegoro Airport.

The volcano erupted last week and has been shooting ash in to the air ever since, which has greatly affected air travel the past few days. The airports shut down on Thursday and the closures have created travel nightmares for tourists visiting the popular resort island of Bali and residents traveling home for Ramadan.

"We want to take precautions so we're not allowing any flights in or out of Bali," Ida Bagus Juliatnyana, a spokesman for the national airport authority told CNN.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and said that the airports could reopen soon depending on the activity.

Mount Raung is one of approximately 130 active volcanoes in the country.
