Authorities have released new details, including the identity of a man who was fatally shot when he tried to rob two former CNN reporters earlier this week.
The Associated Press noted that the Albuquerque Police Department said the man who was killed when he tried to rob Chuck de Caro and Lynne Russell Tuesday evening has been identified as Tomorio Walton.
CNN reported that the former network journalists were on a road trip when they stopped at a Motel 6 in Albuquerque to rest. Police said that while there Russell walked out to her car and left the door to their hotel room open and the 27-year-old Walton pushed her inside.
"He pushed me into the room and that's when my husband came out of the shower and saw what was happening," Russell said. "We tried to calm him, confuse him and do everything we could do to just come out of it in one piece."
While attempting to rob the couple Walton allegedly shot and injured de Caro who returned fire. Both De Caro and Russell have permits to carry concealed weapons.
Police also said that Walton was in violation of parole in Tennessee.
