The Goosebumps movie is hitting theaters this October, and we now have our first official trailer for the film.

The trailer, posted on Sony Pictures' Official YouTube account, sets up the film's plot of releasing monsters from the Goosebumps book series. The main characters then have to go on an adventure to put all the monsters back where they belong.

Though Goosebumps was always a horror series, this trailer gives it more of a family adventure vibe, emphasizing the comedy and the goofy tone. But it still looks like a whole lot of fun, and given all the creepy monsters they're incorporating including Slappy the Dummy, the film will surely be full of lots of eerie moments as well.

In fact, director Rob Letterman said that he tried to combine humor and horror in the film, noting that the original books were both funny and scary and the movie would capture that balance.

Jack Black will be playing the actual Goosebumps author R.L. Stine, although he's said he made the character a bit more sinister for the purposes of the story, as we previously reported.

Goosebumps also stars Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush and Amy Ryan. It's directed by Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens, Gulliver's Travels) and hits theaters on October 16.
