On Tuesday, a Los Angeles county judge denied Marion ‘Suge’ Knight’s request to have the murder charges against him dropped. Although Knight has gone through four different attorneys, the former music mogul has maintained that he acted in self defense in the case that stems from a January hit-and-run incident.
Knight is now being represented by Thomas A. Mesereau Jr. on this case. He was hired in May and the motion to dismiss was delayed.
However, during today’s hearing, Superior Court Judge Stephen A. Marcus denied the motion to dismiss, reports The Los Angeles Times. Of course, this left Mesereau angry, as he believes that video shows that Knight was defending himself when he ran over Terry Carter and Cle “Bone” Sloan at a burger joint in Compton with his truck. Carter was killed and Sloan was left with serious injuries.
Marcus said that, even though Sloan refused to name Knight as the driver, the video of the incident makes it “very, very clear” that Knight was driving the truck.
While the case will continue, Mesereau said he will file a motion to get his client medical treatment while in jail and another to get the $10 million bail dropped. Although Knight has collapsed in court and has been hospitalized, he walked on his own today.
A bail hearing is set for July 17. Knight has pleaded not guilty.
