Rapper Kanye West will be performing at the closing ceremonies of the Pan American Games in Toronto later this month, according to the event’s official Twitter.
The closing ceremonies will take place on July 26 at Rogers Center in Toronto, and will also feature performances from Pitbull and Canadian artist Serena Ryder.
Saad Rafi, chief executive officer of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee, said the closing ceremonies will be a time to celebrate the achievements of the games. “Live Nation brings its unrivalled knowledge of and experience in supporting major high-profile international events to the TORONTO 2015 games,” Rafi said. “We knew they would make our Closing Ceremony a must-see live event and something to remember for our athletes.”
According to USA Today, West has most recently been making headlines for his performance at England’s Glastonbury Festival in June. When closing his performance, West repeatedly shouted, “I am the greatest living rock star on the planet.”
This created distaste from fans across the globe and online. Months before West even took the stage at Glastonbury, an obvious non-fan of Kanye from England even created a Change.org petition to have the rapper removed from the festival’s lineup.
