Marisa Tomei is reportedly in talks to join Marvel and Sony’s new solo Spider-Man movie, which won’t hit theaters until 2017.

The casting was first reported by Variety, which notes that the Oscar winner was offered the part just last week. TheWrap claims that the two sides are in “final talks.”

If Tomei does get the job, she will join 19-year-old actor Tom Holland, who was cast late last month to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Holland will make his debut as the character in next year’s Captain America: Civil War and will star in his own movie, which opens on July 28, 2017.

Jon Watts, who directed Kevin Bacon in Cop Car, was hired to direct. Variety notes that Marvel is still looking for a writer to work with him. However, the site notes that Marvel and Sony have prioritized casting, since working out long-term deals could take some time. Filming does need to start next year obviously.

Tomei recently signed on for a recurring part in Fox’s Empire and will next be seen in Love The Coopers. Her most recent Oscar nomination came for The Wrestler.

Since Peter Parker is set to be a teen, Tomei does seem to be the right choice to be his aunt, but it will still change how we see Aunt May. The character was played by Rosemary Harris in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Sally Field in the two Amazing Spider-Man movies.
