Mexican authorities are currently looking for a drug kingpin who escaped from prison for a second time.

CNN reported the National Security Commission said Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was discovered to be missing from the Altiplano Federal Prison when guards were doing a routine check on Saturday.

Guzman was apparently able to escape by going through a hole inside of his cell. The hole led down to a mile long tunnel, according to the National Security spokesman Monte Alejandro Rubido Garcia.

He previously had made an escape in 2001 by hiding in a laundry cart and was not found until 2014 at a beach resort in Mexico.

Guzman is the head of the Sinaloa cartel, which is said to be the dominate source of drug trafficking in Mexico.

BBC News reported that eighteen guards at the prison were being questioned regarding the escape. The last time anyone saw Guzman was as he was inside the showers located in the jail.

Before his 2001 escape, Guzman was arrested in 1993 to face charges. The escape led to a nearby airport, Toluca, being closed. The Sinaloa cartel is responsible for a large amount of cocaine and other drugs being smuggled into the U.S.
