It looks like Michelle Obama may have a future as an interior decorator.

The First Lady showcased her decorating skills on Wednesday when she announced that she made some changes to the State Dining Room in the White House.

According to The Associated Press, Obama replaced the room’s ivory silk curtains with “silk draperies with vertical stripes of peacock blue and ecru. The blue theme is also present in the china service the First Lady chose back in April, which features a “Kailua” blue trimming.

When it came to the chairs, Obama swapped the original set with custom-made “grid-patterned horsehair fabric” Mahogany side chairs and armchairs, after the chairs that vacated the White House’s East Room during President James Monroe’s presidency in 1818.

Several beautifully designed flowers, baskets and ribbons help tie the room’s look together.

But before Obama could begin making these changes to the famous dining room, she had to get the green light from the Committee for the Preservation of the White House, notes E! News. This important advisory panel oversees all the changes that will be made to the White House.

All together, Obama’s home improvement project is set to have cost $590,000, which was paid for by the White House Endowment Trust.

If you ask us, the room needed a little touch up. The last time it was refurbished was 1998 during the Clinton Administration.
