Something happened in Central New Jersey on Wednesday that you don't see everyday.

According to CBS New York, a massive fire at a North Brunswick warehouse that houses plastics, autos and household goods was so large that the smoke could actually be seen from space.

The fire broke out very early Wednesday morning. In fact, it was 2 am ET when firefighters were alarmed to respond to the incredible blaze. It started in the rear of a warehouse which is used by eight different businesses off Livingston Rd.

Fire Chief Donald Salzmann admitted the department wasn't able to control the fire prior to it taking over the sprinkler system.

“We were trying to keep it under control and try to save half the building, which we were unsuccessful in doing,” Salzmann told 1010 WINS’ Rebecca Granet.

The reasoning behind why the cloud of smoke was so large was due to the items that were burning, such as cars and plastics. An entire parking lot of cars was also caught up in the mix.

The end result came in the form of firefighters deciding to let the fire burn out and deal with the hot-spots that followed. At least 75 people remain in shelters due to evacuation, notes ABC New York.

Officials continue to monitor the air situation in the area.
