TV chef Paula Deen, who is still trying to rebuild her business empire after racism claims nearly destroyed her professional life, just made another really idiotic mistake. She posted a picture with her son wearing Blackface on Twitter and then tried to delete it. Of course, it was up long enough for everyone to it.
The photo shows Deen dressed as I Love Lucy’s Lucy with her son Bobby dressed as Ricky and wearing Brownface. Her former producer, Gordon Elliott, is shown smiling behind them. “Lucyyyyyyy! You got a lot of esplainin' to do! #Transformation Tuesday @BobbyDeen,” the caption to the photo read.
Yahoo Celebrity notes that the photo is an old photo from her 2011 Paula’s Best Dishes series.
Back in 2013, Deen’s media empire was left decimated after admitting to using the n-word and asking black employees to act like slaves at her Savannah, Georgia restaurant. Food Network ended up firing her and several retailers stopped carrying products with her name.
Last year, investors helped her create a new company, called Paula Deen Ventures and she launched an online network. the restaurant at the center of the controversy closed in April 2014.
Deen’s reps have not commented on the ill-advised Twitter post, but it might leave some wondering if she learned anything from the 2013 scandal.
