Authorities in Utah were questioning a person of interest after a 12-year-old girl was found dead in a field not far from her home.
KSL noted that neighbors have said that a 15-year-old boy has been trying to get girls in the area to go into the field with him. West Valley City police believe girl whose body was found may have been coaxed by him to leave her house.
"She did leave with an individual that was unknown to the family around midnight," Police Chief Lee Russo said. "There was a statement that was made that enticed her to come out (of the house). There was a dialogue in which she agreed to go outside."
Law enforcement will not confirm the age of the person of being questioned.
Reuters noted that police have released few details surrounding the girl’s death only saying that it was a homicide and she suffered head trauma.
"Evidence of trauma and indicators at scene suggest 12-year-old girl's death is homicide. Investigators now gathering evidence, canvassing area, following leads.”
